THE DAY
“There are places that hold a kind of quiet magic — and Jarrahfall is one of them.”
Nestled among the towering jarrah trees of Perth’s south-west, Jarrahfall Bush Camp is the kind of venue that doesn’t need to try very hard. The light filters through the canopy in long golden ribbons, the air carries the unmistakable scent of eucalyptus, and the whole place hums with a stillness that makes you slow down and really look. It was the perfect backdrop for Kobie and Jacob’s wedding day — and honestly, one of the most beautiful days I’ve had behind a lens.
I arrived well before the ceremony to walk the grounds and feel out the light. The jarrah forest was doing what it does best in late afternoon — those warm, amber shafts cutting through the trees at impossible angles. I knew straight away this was going to be a golden hour worth waiting for.
🌿

Vows Beneath the Jarrah
Kobie walked through the trees to meet Jacob looking absolutely radiant — that’s the only word for it.
The ceremony was held beneath a natural canopy of jarrah, and the dappled light was kind to everyone it touched. There was no fussiness, no over-production. Just two people, their closest people, and the forest.I watched Jacob’s face as Kobie approached and the look he gave her — that’s the frame I always hope for. Completely unguarded, completely full. I won’t pretend I kept my composure entirely while photographing it.Their vows were personal and funny and tender in equal measure.
There was laughter. There were tears. The celebrant held the whole moment beautifully, and the bush provided its own quiet soundtrack — birds, a faint breeze, the occasional rustle through the undergrowth.
The forest felt like it was in on the secret — holding its breath for the kiss, then exhaling with the cheer of every guest.💍

Kobie & Jacob, Just the Two of Them
After the ceremony formalities we slipped away into the trees for portraits.
The jarrah forest in late afternoon is a photographer’s fever dream: long shadows, amber warmth, and that impossibly soft quality of light you only get in the bush.Kobie and Jacob were naturals.
They’re one of those couples who clearly enjoy each other’s company — genuinely, not performatively — and it translated into every frame.
We found a clearing where the light came through at a low angle across the ferns, and that’s where some of my favourite frames of the day happened. Soft, warm, completely theirs.

THE RECEPTION Dancing Til the Trees Swayed
As the last light faded from the sky the reception came alive. Lanterns and fairy lights turned the camp into something out of a dream — that warm glow against the dark trunks of the jarrah is something I don’t think I’ll forget in a hurry.
The speeches were generous and funny and heartfelt — I always photograph through the speeches because the genuine reactions are where so many of my favourite images live. The dance floor, such as it was in the open air of the camp, got going early and stayed that way. There’s a particular joy in watching people dance under the stars in the middle of a forest.
Kobie and Jacob’s first dance was one of those slow, leaning-into-each-other moments — eyes closed, completely present — and by the second song, everyone was up. Driving home through the dark I had that quiet, full feeling you get after a day that gave you everything. Kobie and Jacob, thank you for having me along for it. What a pair. What a day.🕯️
